As the founder of SB Architects (Sandy Babcock International), Mercer design architect Don Sandy has forged a longstanding reputation for excellence in the planning and design of large-scale resort, hotel, residential, and mixed-use projects. From its founding office in San Francisco in 1960 and its 20-year presence in Miami, SB Architects continues to grow its worldwide practice, providing top-flight design services across the country and around the world. More than 180 awards for design excellence on projects such as the Westin Palo Alto, Monterey Peninsula Hotel, and Calistoga Ranch, An Auberge Resort in Calistoga, California attest to SB Architects’ continued commitment to sensitive, high-quality design and planning.

INTERIOR DESIGNER

As the founder and principal of McCartan, a San Francisco and New York design firm, Mercer Interior Designer Colum McCartan was born and raised in Ireland where he trained in Furniture and Interior Design at the College of Art and Design in Belfast. In 1995, deciding that it was time to make his own mark, McCartan moved to San Francisco armed with an extensive portfolio. Inspired by the city's entrepreneurial spirit, spectacular scenery and mix of people and cultures, he quickly established a reputation for creative and innovative work. McCartan has since become a bi-coastal firm and won numerous national and international awards. Signature projects include the Parker Meridian Hotel, the Cocoa Exchange condominiums, the Biltmore and the Westin Times Square in Manhattan as well as the Hotel Adagio and Hotel Vitale in San Francisco and the 600-room Rio Del Mar Beach Resort in the Caribbean.
